Andes to the Pacific

Lima-Ayacucho-Paracas

Ayacucho known as the "sierra" of Peru is surrounded by the Andes where we will spend the first 3 days of our adventure. 33 beautiful churches that have a distinct style of architecture are found in Ayacucho making the town known as the "city of churches". Ayacucho also has some of the best artesania" (handcrafts) in Peru. Retablos (small portable altars which represent scenes of everyday life in the Peruvian Andes) and also things made of the Huamanga Stone (a white stone) are typical of the area . We will cabalgata around Quinua, where the battle of Ayacucho took place, which is where the Indians defeated the Spaniards to finally gain their independence. Also we will visit Wari (architecture of the ancient Peru) Riding through the green Serria surrounded by the native people with their herds of Alpaca and goats will take you back in time.

Our trip out of the Andes by bus allows us to admire the dramatic change of landscape as we descend to the Pacific coast. Along the way will be a stop at Tambo Colorado ruins & museum. The thousand-year-old culture of Paracas reached a level of development comparable to those of Egypt and Greece. This culture was famous for their colorful textiles, brain surgery & perfecting the embalming of their dead.

The reminder of our trip will be spent in the port city of Paracas where we will cabalgata around the surrounding areas of Chincha and Pisco. A boat ride to the Ballestas Islands and a flight over the Nazca Lines are planned.

There will be free time to spend by the pool and enjoy the great weather before the return to winter in the USA. The National Reserve of Paracas, is where the cold current of Humboldt converge with the hot waters of "El Nino", allowing the creation of a special microclimate.

This is one of the most important sanctuaries of wild life in Peru. The beach is home to thousands of species of birds. In the sanctuary species coexist such as the penguin of Humboldt, marine herrings, pelicans, herons, gulls, & Flamingos, among others that share the habitat in perfect harmony with the colossal sea lions and sea wolves.
