NEW YEARS FAMILY TRIP 2003

Start The New Year In A Different Way!

Fly to Lima, Peru to be transported back to the 17th century during the time of huge Hacienda's.

Stay in Hacienda San Jose a converted colonial hacienda dating back to 1688, to get the feel of Peru's Spanish Colonial period.

San Jose, a historical monument of Peru, is located outside of a small Agriculture town called Chincha. This small town is 120 miles south of Lima on the Pan-American Highway. Like so many other towns on the barren Peruvian Coast, Chincha is located in a rich valley producing fruit and vegetables. It is noted for being the birth spot of a very prominent Negro culture and folklore, brought from Africa by slaves who years ago worked on the "haciendas". Beneath the Hacienda are 70 miles of catacombs used to bring slaves in from the coast as well as the old slave cells. San Jose also has it's own 17th century chapel, with a fantastic baroque style altar imported from Europe.

Although you will be surrounded with the aura of Peru's past, San Jose's' amenities give you the comforts of today with a bar, restaurant, TV room, game room, tennis courts and pool.

Riding on the beach Nazca Lines

Southern Peru is rich in a variety of entertainments, from visiting the National Reserve of Paracas where you can watch sea lions and Humboldt Penguins in their native habitat, visit Inca ruins, ride Peruvian horses through the winding lanes of the of the ancient haciendas, lounge by the pool, visit working haciendas where famous Peruvian horses have been bred, fly over the Lines of Nazca, frolic on the beach of the Pacific ocean, explore the old port town of Paracas, fish in the Pacific ocean, Enjoy a party with native dancers and you as part of the entertainment.

From the beaches of Southern Peru in 2002, 2003 will find the tour in the Magical Andes.

  Cusco
Inca walls, colorful costumes, churches built on top of palaces, citadels lost in the Andean heights, legendary roads -all the beauty of a glorious past that enfolds the visitor who arrives in Cuzco, the sacred city of the Incas and archaeological capital of the Americas. Ever since US archaeologist Hiram Bingham discovered the citadel of Machu Pichu for the world, Cuzco has fired the imagination of thousands of travelers from all over the world who venture down the Inca Trail every year headed for the summit of one of the world's most extraordinary monuments.

The city of Cuzco, however, features many other attractions which by themselves would be enough to attract visitors: the main square, which the Incas called Huacaypata, the artisans quarter of San Blas, the Convent of Santo Domingo, built on top of the Temple of the Sun or Korikancha, the palaces of the Inca and his court, part of a long list of archaeological wonders.

With its bustling nightlife, Cuzco is also a magical city of dizzying excitement. Together with its rich archaeological legacy, which is to be found on practically every street corner, its cultural scene makes the sacred city of the Incas the most spectacular destination in the Americas.

MACHU PICCHU: ONE OF THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD

The ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu is the star attraction of Cuzco. Discovered in 1911 by US explorer Hiram Bingham, the citadel is deemed one of the world's finest examples of landscape architecture.

Machu Picchu ("old mountain" in Quechua, the ancient language of the Incas) nestles on top of a mountain saddle high above the Urubamba River in the middle of the cloud forest. It was both a center of worship and astronomic observatory as well as the private retreat of the family of Inca ruler Pachacútec. It is split into two major areas: the agricultural zone, made up of terracing and food storehouses; and the urban zone, featuring the sacred sector, with temples, squares and royal tombs which have been carved to an extraordinary degree of perfection. The stone staircases and canals are found throughout this unique archaeological site. Over the citadel looms Huayna Picchu ("young mountain" in Quechua), which can be climbed up a steep stone-paved trail.

The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
Located in the department of Cuzco, the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is Peru's most popular trekking route and possibly one of the most spectacular walks in the Americas. It forms part of the more than 23,000 km of roads built by the Incas across South America. Each year, some 25,000 hikers from all over the world walk the 43 km stone-paved trail, built by the Incas to get to the impregnable citadel of Machu Picchu, deep in the Cuzco cloud forest.

The trail sets out from Qorihuayrachina, at Kilometer 88 of the Cuzco-Quillabamba railway, and takes three to four days of tough hiking. The route runs through an impressive range of altitudes, where climates and eco-systems range from the high Andean plain down to the cloud forests. The trail climbs up through two highland passes (the higher of the two, Warmiwañuska, lies at 4,200) before reaching Machu Picchu through the Inti Punku or Gateway of the Sun. One of the attractions of the trail is that it winds past carved granite Inca settlements (Wiñay Wayna, Phuyupatamarca), and is surrounded by breath-taking natural scenery. The forests abound in hundreds of species of orchids, brightly-colored birds and dream-like landscapes, the ideal complement to this indispensable hikers' route.
